Urgiles Brothers Excavating Inc. played a key role in a major light rail transit expansion project in the Greater Toronto Area, delivering large-scale excavation, hauling, and civil infrastructure works across multiple phases. This project required precise coordination within dense urban corridors, strict environmental compliance, and continuous interface with active public infrastructure.

Bulk Excavation & Earthworks

Our team completed extensive bulk excavation and site preparation works, including the excavation, hauling, and regulated disposal of over 158,000 m³ of material. This scope included the handling of contaminated and environmentally sensitive soils, executed in full compliance with regulatory requirements. Additional works included the demolition and removal of over 7,000 m² of existing hard surfaces, as well as the backfilling and compaction of over 6,000 m³ of granular materials, providing stable foundations for future transit infrastructure. Working in high-traffic urban environments, we maintained safe, efficient material movement while minimizing disruption to surrounding communities.

Civil Infrastructure & Concrete Works

Following the successful completion of the bulk excavation phase, we were contracted to deliver civil and structural works as part of the same transit expansion. This phase included the supply and installation of cast-in-place concrete, as well as sub-base and base preparation to meet stringent engineering specifications. Our scope also involved the installation of underground services, including PVC piping, sanitary force main, and multiple maintenance manholes, contributing to a fully integrated and durable infrastructure system.
